Paying for college is on the minds of a lot of high school seniors. And while many students struggle financially, for a gay teen whose parents cut him off financially for coming out, the dream of college may seem very far off.
Luckily, there is an organization devoted to helping GLBT students pay for college. This is the Point Foundation, a not-for-profit which, "Provides financial support, mentoring and hope to meritorious students who are marginalized due to sexual orientation, gender expression or gender identity."
The Point Foundation offers 15 different scholarships to students who excel in a variety of areas, and whom they believe will make significant contributions to both the GLBT community and the larger world.
For information on how to apply check out the Point Foundation website.
No one should be denied the ability to go to school simply because of the inability to cover the ever increasing costs. Hopefully, more organizations will follow the lead of the Point Foundation and reach out to GLBT students.
