Who Did You Come Out to First?
I was hanging out with my friend at his house.He's always been my best friend,we were talking and he actually brought it up.He asked me if I ever thought about him like that, and I told him I guess so. Then he started crying actually and told me he loved me and such.That happened when I was 15 and he was 14.He's my boyfriend and we've been together since,I'm now 19 almost 20.
Were There Any Challenges?
Yes, telling my parents was hard.I went to my mom first because I knew she would understand more than anyone.She said she would support me no matter what.My dad doesn't really talk to me anymore,which kind of hurt.My sister and mom are trying to get him to come around.My boyfriend's family was more understanding but he still wanted me to help him.
Advice
- Talk to a best friend
- If you have a boyfriend or girlfriend have them help you
- Or have a trusted family member with you.It's always good to have support.
- Tell the parent you know would understand
- Make sure to sit them down
- Don't say it as if it is no big deal, but don't make a big deal
- Gauge their reactions and act accordingly, give them space
- Know that you are you :)
- Don't feel bad cause you felt like you let a family member down.
