The word straight is a commonly used term for a heterosexual person. Some people prefer to write the word as str8. This is done both as a play on words and also as a critique of a term where the opposite would then be bent or crooked, which could be seen to imply that being GLBT was abnormal.
As one teen says, "I’m “straight” and my best friend is a lesbian. I’m tired of referring to myself and others as as “straight” in conversations with her. Although she doesn’t take offense I always feel I’m insulting her, in essence labeling her as crooked. I don’t like “hetero” either, because that implies she is a ”homo”, which also has been used as a derogatory term."
