Questions for Deadlee
How did you get involved in the HomoRevolution Tour?
It was an idea between myself and my manager to bring greater awareness to gay rappers. Most shows I had done were locally in California, but through the internet and sites like Myspace, there was a call for us to perform.
Does being GLBT affect or influence your music?
I wear my sexuality on my sleeve, because we are one of the few minority groups in the world that continues to be subjested to bigotry. I want to bring our struggle to the masses and use rap as a tool to further bring our civil rights fight out of the closet and into the living room or rap stage!
What was different about performing on the HomoRevolution tour and performing in other environments?
There were so many people on the road excited to see their stories up on stage. We had a group of women travel half a day from Oklahoma to Dallas, Texas, just to see us. GLBT people of all races, and classes can relate to our music- and there is an untapped market out there. We basically hit the road to give people what they want.
Do you have any advice for GLBT teens who are interested in hip hop?
I think future GLBT rappers will have it easier than we did, and that's another reason we did the tour. We want to encourage young talent to be true to themselves and show them that they can be whatever they want. Like anything you do - it takes a lot of work and persistence, and the biggest thing is not to give up!!
