Background:

JD Samson is originally from Ohio, and is based in New York. JD is a member of the group LeTigre, and is known for everything from making lesbian calendars, to sporting a tattoo reading, "Mustache," and DJing.

Music:

In addition to Le Tigre, JD has worked with:

  • The New England Roses
  • Peaches
  • Radio Sloan and Samantha Maloney.
  • Junior Senior

These days, JD is collaborating with Johanna Fateman (also from Le Tigre) on a remix project titled Men.

On Lesbian Teen Life:

JD wrote on the Le Tigre website:

"It was really hard to come out of the closet in Ohio as a fifteen-year-old lesbian. My parents and I fought a lot, and I was constantly getting in trouble for being different (ie: shaving my head, dying my hair). I was extremely fortunate to have some other gay and lesbian friends at my school and in surrounding areas. We attended meetings at the GLBT center in Cleveland every once and a while and quickly found the queer friendly meeting spots for teens. Whenever there were problems with straight kids harassing us we had a whole gang of kids to back us up.

Other Fun Projects:

JD has also put out two beefcake, pinup style calendars, JD's Lesbian Calendar in 2003 and JD's Lesbian Utopia in 2006.
