The indie rock band, Gossip, was formed in the late nineties in Arkansas. They are now based in Portland, Oregon. Gossip is made up of singer Beth Ditto, drummer, Hannah Blilie, and guitarist, Brace Paine.
Gossip has released three full length albums:
- That's Not What I Heard
- Movement
- Standing in the Way of Control
Politics and sexuality are both apparent in Gossip's music. For example, Standing in the Way of Control, is about same sex marriage, and the video for Listen Up, plays with gender.
Both singer, Beth Ditto and drummer Hannah Blilie, identify as lesbians. Guitarist, Brace Paine is straight.
The band recently signed to Music With a Twist, a division of Columbia records dedicated to GLBT artists.
In an interview with Spin magazine Beth said, "I love being on a queer label. You're sitting in a room with a group of people who have all the same reference points as you, you don't have to explain anything about your identity to them..."
Hannah told AfterEllen.com, "I think the band has always had a message, even if songs in particular aren't always political, they're always there. They're always about queer love, and I think we've never been people to hide."
You can hear songs and check out videos on the band's MySpace page or on their website.
