More and more celebrities of all sexual orientations have come out in support of GLBT causes. For example, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have said they won't get married until same sex couples also have the right.
Now Hillary Duff has teamed up with The Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network and the Ad Council to produce a PSA pointing out the offensiveness of saying, "That's so gay" to mean that something is stupid or uncool.

So true! We shouldn’t have to state the obvious that gays are stupid and uncool. Not to mention the fact that if they would stay in the closet where they belong, they wouldn’t be out and about to whine about it in the first place.
Whoever wrote that is not only a dumbass enveloped in fake Islamic or Christian religious and PERSONAL beliefs, but they should deserve to die in a closet, where you belong. Have a good day!

I’ve got nothing against gays or lesbians(well I’d stay a good distance from lesbians but not gays) but I often say “That’s so gay”. I mean it’s never anything personal just a phrase. Gays or lesbians shouldn’t take it to offense because the truth is that society might NEVER accept them because Adam was made for Eve not for Steve. That’s just the point.
It makes no sense. We shouldn’t say “that’s so gay” because gay doesn’t mean stupid or uncool, it means a guy who likes other guys? Last time I checked, gay meant happy, or merry.
They darn near contradict themselves in these ads, and that’s so totally straight…as a u-turn.
It started as a harmless phrase and it in no way insults a homosexual. It’s English. We have many words that are pronounced the same but have different meanings…they’re called homonyms.

I recently had a friend who came out to being gay ( i am to but my parents would shoot me so im waiting until i leave home) Once they did they said that nothing was going to change and they would still be the same person. Ohh boy they changed, at first it started with my group of tight friends saying ‘Thats gay!’ When something didnt go our way. (haha were brats :9). He used to get angry and annoyed, he said that we arent aloud to say that anymore. Of course we would still day it. Now we dont talk anymore because he’s a winey bitch

This stars do have a point. I am never offended when someone uses the term ‘thats so gay’ because its almost automatic, but what they should be fighting against is ‘your a fag!’ Because that term actually means something deminuative. It hurts the hear that from my brother and ofcourse the boy i like. Irony :S

Google searched “that’s so gay”, and it took me seven pages to finally get to someone on the internet with a positive opinion on the phrase and its meaning. Good job on first comment, glad to see the whole world hasn’t gone down the crapper yet.
Of all demographic groups in America’s history, GLBTs have got to be the most whiny and the most easily butthurt of all time. Which I think is so gay.
I haven’t seen the adds yet, I’ll watch them later, but the way I see this issue is like this. When the phase “That’s so gay” is said it is used in a derogative sense, suggesting that the problem is stupid. It is never used is a positive light, suggesting something is good or happy like the meaning.
If a person who is confused or still closeted hears this term always used in such a negative light, and never used positively, they may start connecting the negative phase to the word and figure “That’s what all these people think of gays/lesbians”. How do you think that would make them feel when they connect this phase to so many people who use it?
Then you have the gay and lesbians who don’t like words like “Queer” and “Dyke”. If you are not willing to say them words because it might offend them think about the guys and girls who are offended by that phase. Is it fair that you are willing to adjust to some people but not others because you think that it should be ok to use that phase?
Just think, I’m sure there are words or sayings out there that you don’t like and don’t allow people to say. I’m sure many people respect that, not all but most. You should return the favour for homosexual people.

I think that may be because they are suck a minority but they get picked on soooo much. I see it everywhere and it simply isn’t fair. If you got picked on half as much as some of the GLBT community do you would FLIP.
Just treat everyone how you would like to be treated … with respect.
