Today's Myth: Gays and Lesbians "Recruit" Teens

Monday October 1, 2007

Sexual orientation is not something that a person can change, so it would make little sense for anyone to try to recruit others!

It is true that some GLBT teens have older partners. But it is also true that plenty of straight teens have older partners.

Unfortunately, when a gay teen dates someone older people may assume that he or she has been "recruited" and not looked at other issues, including the fact that because adults are more likely to be out than are teens, it can be hard for GLBT teens to meet people their own age.

The bottom line? There is no gay recruitment machine.

Absolutely no such thing as a gay recruitment machine! It just sucks for me because I used to have a major crush on this gay chick. I’ve gotten over it but I still wish she would come back inside the closet. Yeah, I still have a crush on her!
